how to engage students

Day 5, Monday: Write a ‘How to’ post teaching everyone … well, how to do something! Cooking, crafting, or anything else that takes your fancy.

How to engage students in class:

1) Greet each of them. Either at the door or sometime before attendance. It's important to say their name.

2) Ask a sample of them how their night/weekend/vacation was. It's important to listen.

3) Give an overview of the day's lesson. Some days it's a matter of telling them "there are three things to do today."

4) Get the business over with and explain any class activity or homework. Make sure they jot down the assignment.

5) Compliment them on a job well done.

6) Allow for a few minutes of casual talk time at the end of class.

And that's my formula for a successful class.

I can very much see why you are a successful teacher. Simple and to the point

That's how my favorite teachers ran their classes, for the most part.
